PC (Personal Computer) BASICS
Description
Constant process improvement and technology upgrades demand more reliance on personal computers. PC’s are used by maintenance electricians as tools to acquire information, data, view logic, backup of programs, etc... Increasing demands for information flow through the use of computers and network communications can be difficult for the electrician that is not a “PC technology native”.
Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this class, you will:
- Be able to identify key PC components
- Identify the installed Windows® operating system
- Understand each “required” software component function as it relates to the things electricians do every day
- You will learn how to install/remove software
- Be able to customize user settings
- Be able to create and organize folders/files
- Be able to establish a network connection
- Be able to search for files/folders
- Understand how to install/remove software
Outline
- Familiarization of PC hardware
- Desktop customization
- Network Neibourhood or my Network Places
- Resources, HD, CD, FLOPPY, COM, LPT, RAM, Task
- PC Management (Start-up/Shutdown)
- File/Folder structures, types, naming conventions
- Basic Windows functions, file open, close, edit
- Search to locate files, views, sorting
- Copy, Cut, Paste, Send to
- Application software installation/removal
- Simple steps to PC maintenance
