It's a Network Problem - The Tragedy of Training
Heather Angus, editor of Manufacturing Automation (A Kerrwil Publication) wrote a very thought provoking note titled "It's a Network Problem" (see Manufacturing Automation Nov/Dec issue, from the editor column).
Heather touched the very sensitive issue by asking "Are we doing any Training" ? Bill Valedis, manager of training development at Imperial Automation Technologies Inc. responds to Heather Angus.
Dear Heather, The last paragraph of your editorial asks a very interesting question for all of us here in Canada "are we doing any training". As an educator in the industrial automation sector, I have to say NO and the issue goes deeper. In my opinion training is not taken seriously here in Canada or the US because it does not appear to be a requirement. Although we have examples of great companies with great training programs, there appears to be some level of misunderstanding and confusion regarding the benefits of training.
This continuing struggle to understand the training benefits is causing problems in certain process and manufacturing sectors. |
